WSET Level 3 Award in Wines
An advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts. For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.

How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
You’ll be able to taste 75+ wines during the course by using a globally recognised approach to identify the key styles of wine and characteristics of important grape varieties.

Examination
Unit 1 – Theory Examination
Duration: 60 minutes
Format: 50 multiple-choice questions (Part 1)
4 Short written answers, 25 marks each (Part 2)
In order to secure a pass for the theory examination a candidate will be required to attain a minimum mark of 55% in both part 1 and part 2.
Unit 2 – Tasting Examination
Duration: 30 minutes
Format: Blind tasting of two wines
A mark of 55% is required to achieve a pass in Unit 2
Passing grade:
Pass – Aggregate mark of between 55% and 64%
Pass with Merit: Aggregate mark of between 65% and 79%
Pass with Distinction: Aggregate mark of 80% and above with no individual examination paper below 65%
In order to be awarded the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines, candidates must achieve a pass in both units of the examination.
