WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

An advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts. For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.

What you'll learn

Unit 1
The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
How these key factors influence the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world
How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality

Unit 2
How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

You?™ll be able to taste 75+ wines during the course by using a globally recognised approach.

Examination
Unit 1 Theory Examination
Duration: 60 minutes
Format: 50 multiple-choice questions (Part 1) and 4 short written answers, 25 marks each (Part 2)
A minimum mark of 55% is required in both parts.

Unit 2 Tasting Examination
Duration: 30 minutes
Format: Blind tasting of two wines
A mark of 55% is required.

Passing grade:
Pass: 55%
Pass with Merit: 65%
Pass with Distinction: 80% and above with no individual examination paper below 65%
