The 2021 vintage in the Côte de Beaune was cool and challenging, with severe spring frosts followed by a relatively mild growing season, resulting in low yields but wines with vivid acidity, moderate alcohol and a classical red-fruited profile that offers very good value for lovers of traditional Burgundy.

In the glass, this Volnay shows a lifted bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, violets and rose petal, layered with subtle cranberry and fresh red plum. The palate is medium-bodied and precise, with silky yet present tannins, vibrant, mouth-watering acidity and a core of pure red fruit framed by delicate oak spice, hints of clove, cinnamon, light vanilla, forest herbs and a whisper of smoke. Earthy undertones, underbrush and a suggestion of truffle and dried rose promise further nuance with time in bottle, leading to a long, refined and gently savory finish.
