Vintage Character Mihope Winery Italian Riesling Semi-Sweet 2024 belongs to a year that asked different questions of growers in Ningxia. Heat accumulated more rapidly than in the preceding two seasons, while unusually heavy rain in August and September complicated the approach to harvest across the eastern Helan foothills. Keeping fruit healthy and choosing a balanced picking point became particularly important. This half-bottle takes the grape in a gently sweet direction, with fresh acidity providing a counterweight to its generous fruit. The result is an approachable white whose sweetness is part of its character, balanced by a clear and refreshing palate.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Delicate flowers, fresh fruit and a touch of honey emerge from the pale lemon-coloured wine. The palate is fruit-filled and supple, with lively acidity preventing the sweetness from feeling heavy. Honeyed notes continue towards the finish, while the refreshing line makes another sip inviting. Serve well chilled, allowing a little warmth in the glass to reveal the floral detail. A pear tart, a mild blue cheese or gently spiced Thai fish cakes offer different ways to enjoy it. The wine can echo delicate sweetness, soften saltiness or balance a little spice without requiring a rich dessert.
Winery Background Mihope's estate project began in 2011 in the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains. Its vineyard programme combines several grape varieties with precise irrigation, while modern cellar controls help shape different styles from the same region. Italian Riesling provides a distinct option alongside the estate's dry Riesling and other white wines. Presented here in a 375ml bottle, this semi-sweet expression is suited to a smaller pour after a meal or alongside a carefully chosen dish, showing the breadth of the estate's white-wine range.
