Vintage Character Tenute dei Ciclopi Etna Rosso 'Contrada Feudo di Mezzo' 2021 comes from a northern Etna season marked by sustained dryness and a late opportunity for balance. Winter brought little snow at lower elevations, and the dry growing season placed particular pressure on younger vines. Rain at the beginning of October helped the fruit recover its progress toward maturity. Those regional conditions form the background to this single-contrada expression of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Its appeal lies in bringing ripe, detailed aromas together with a fresh, savoury structure, rather than presenting the warmth of the year as weight alone.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Bitter orange, marasca cherry and Sicilian mint create a distinctive aromatic opening. Rhubarb and medicinal herbs follow, joined by tobacco, dark chocolate and clove. The palate has a fresh, savoury core and refined tannins, with mineral impressions returning through a very persistent finish. The contrast between herbal lift and deeper flavours gives the wine particular versatility with a meal. Match it with braised lamb, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheese. Each pairing has enough savoury depth to meet the wine's complexity while leaving its cherry, citrus and fine tannic outline clearly visible.
Winery Background Feudo di Mezzo is presented separately to highlight the character of its volcanic-sand vineyard. Bush-trained vines supply the two local red varieties, with Nerello Mascalese forming the larger share. Fermentation in open vats uses selected yeasts and skin contact before the wine moves into tonneaux for two years. Further bottle resting follows filtration. These choices give the cuvée time to develop a composed texture without losing its fresh centre. It is a focused site expression within the estate's range, marked by savoury persistence and a notably layered aromatic profile.
