Vintage Character Realm Cellars 'Precious Twin' Rosé 2023 was shaped by one of Napa Valley's longest growing seasons in recent years. Winter and spring rainfall replenished water reserves, while a mild, relatively cool summer allowed the grapes to develop flavour slowly. The fruit for this wine, drawn from warmer Calistoga and cooler Coombsville, was not picked until October. That extra time on the vine built flavour and colour while preserving freshness, and the finished wine reached just 12.9% alcohol naturally. The late season offered Realm an unexpected opportunity to make a vivid, fully flavoured rosé with unusual precision and energy.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Raspberry, strawberry and watermelon define the nose and continue through the palate. The fruit feels generous and juicy, with a mouth-filling texture balanced by a salivating line of acidity. Its concentration does not obscure the clean shape of the wine, and the flavours linger through a bright, refreshing finish. Serve cool rather than ice-cold to allow the aromatic detail to open. Grilled prawns, roast chicken with herbs or a Vietnamese prawn salad are natural companions, bringing out the fruit and freshness while matching the wine's satisfying presence on the palate.
Winery Background Precious Twin is a blend of Merlot and Charbono made by direct pressing, a method that gives a rosé its colour and texture without the extended extraction used for red wine. It follows Realm's earlier 2020 rosé, La Fe, while taking advantage of a very different harvest. Artist Sylvia Ji created the feathered-serpent label, drawing on Aztec mythology and the idea of rebirth. The release illustrates Realm's willingness to respond to the character of a season, letting the fruit suggest a distinct expression beyond the estate's better-known red wines.
