Vintage Character Bacalhoa Quinta do Carmo Vinho Branco 2024 followed an early harvest calendar. Roupeiro and Antão Vaz were picked in the final week of August, with Arinto following in the first week of September. The proportions also shifted: 53% Roupeiro, 26% Antão Vaz and 21% Arinto. Those dates and the larger Arinto share put retained acidity and aromatic freshness at the centre of this vintage. The producer reports dawn picking, immediate pressing and cooling, then cold pre-fermentation contact and time on fine lees. It describes citrus, flowers and a long, fresh finish. The picking sequence ran from August into September.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Citrus from Roupeiro, ripe orchard fruit from Antão Vaz and a floral lift from Arinto define the nose. The palate is dry, generously textured yet held by lively acidity; fine-lees contact adds breadth without turning the finish heavy. The finish is long, clean and persistent rather than sweet. It suits shellfish with a light herb dressing, grilled white fish and soft cheeses.
Winery Background Quinta do Carmo had made red wines for more than a century before this white joined the range during its collaboration with the Lafite Rothschild group. Bacalhôa now manages the estate near Estremoz, where clay over marble and schist offers distinct vineyard material. The fruit is harvested before dawn, cooled on arrival, then fermented as a white wine with cold pre-fermentation contact and extended time on fine lees. Rui Vieira's approach seeks fragrance and structure without sacrificing acidity.
