Vintage Character Château Brane Cantenac Blanc 2021 is the estate's Bordeaux AOC dry white. The producer calls 2021 a year of sharp contrasts: frost, spring rain and a dull summer were followed by late, severe dryness. In its white plots, the team avoided exposing bunches too heavily to the sun and picked as each variety reached maturity in September. These estate decisions explain why a challenging year still gave ripe flavours and a clear acidic line. The blend is 72% Sauvignon Blanc and 28% Sémillon, so the richness comes from texture rather than sweetness.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Preserved lemon, blood orange, pear, cinnamon and delicate spice appear in the château's own tasting note. The dry palate is aromatic and generous yet held by freshness, with pear returning through a long finish. The winery records fermentation in 225- and 500-litre barrels, half of them new, followed by about eight months on fine lees. That richer barrel treatment sets it apart from the Baron white's modest new-oak regime. Langoustine ravioli, roast turbot and lemon-herb chicken have enough texture to meet its layered mouthfeel. Serve cool enough for the citrus to remain vivid, not so cold that its lees-derived breadth disappears.
Winery Background The Lurton family's Margaux estate makes this white under the Bordeaux appellation. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon make a wine of its own, not a white version of the red grand vin. Deliberate fruit protection in a difficult season, followed by barrel fermentation and fine-lees ageing, builds texture while keeping a vivid citrus finish.
