Domaine des Comtes Lafon Viré Clessé 2023
Vintage Character
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy’s Mâconnais region delivered superb conditions, with a mild spring and a warm, sunny summer that promoted excellent ripening and maintained vibrant acidity—making it a standout year for Chardonnay.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Comtes Lafon Viré-Clessé 2023, awarded 90 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, exemplifies the appellation's signature freshness and mineral complexity. Delicate aromas of white peach, lemon zest, and acacia blossom mingle with subtle notes of almond and wet stone. On the palate, layers of citrus and orchard fruit are supported by a sleek, focused structure and a gentle creamy texture, leading to a persistent, mineral-driven finish. This versatile Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, seared scallops, or classic chèvre cheese; for an Asian-inspired option, steamed fish with ginger-soy sauce highlights the wine’s freshness without overwhelming its elegance.
Winery Background
Comtes Lafon is a revered name in Burgundy, with a heritage rooted in Meursault and a reputation for elevating the wines of the Mâconnais. Under the guidance of Dominique Lafon, the domaine employs organic and biodynamic vineyard practices, emphasizing respect for the land and minimal intervention in the cellar to allow each terroir’s character to shine. Their commitment to precision and integrity is evident in every bottling, and the Viré-Clessé stands as a vibrant, authentic reflection of its limestone-rich soils and the region’s unique climate. Comtes Lafon’s approach combines tradition with innovation, consistently producing wines that are both expressive and true to their origins.
