Vintage Character Domaine Morey-Coffinet Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc 2024 belongs to a cooler, wetter Burgundy season than the preceding hot vintages. Persistent rain and relatively low temperatures brought mildew and grey-rot pressure, making vineyard attention and sorting particularly important. At Morey-Coffinet, grass was encouraged between the rows to compete for excess water, helping the estate retain sound fruit. This Chardonnay answers those conditions with a notably delicate, lively balance. Its moderate alcohol and unforced movement make the vintage's freshness more prominent than richness or weight.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Apple, white peach and lemon bring a clear orchard-fruit focus, with white flowers, a little hazelnut and a gentle buttery accent adding detail. The palate is vivid and composed, with enough rounded fruit to soften its fresh, saline finish. It is an approachable introduction to the estate's whites without losing the precise character of this release. Try it with grilled sole and lemon butter, roast chicken with a light cream sauce, or steamed scallops with ginger. These pairings leave room for the wine's finer citrus and floral nuances.
Winery Background Domaine Morey-Coffinet was established in 1980 through the marriage of Fabienne Coffinet and Michel Morey, uniting vineyards inherited from two winegrowing families. Their son Thibault joined in 2000 and helped direct a gradual change in farming: herbicides were abandoned in 2002, organic certification followed in 2018, and biodynamic principles have been practised since 2015. Hand harvesting and careful sorting remain central. In the historic cellars, oak barrels sit alongside amphorae and egg-shaped vessels, with the choice of containers guided by balance and the character of each wine.
