Mahi Wines Chardonnay 'Twin Valleys Vineyard' 2022
Vintage Character
The 2022 Mahi Chardonnay Twin Valleys Vineyard from Marlborough is a refined showcase of the region’s sub-regional diversity, capturing both clarity and layered complexity in the glass. The 2022 vintage in Marlborough was characterized by a cool, extended growing season with even ripening, leading to Chardonnays noted for their vibrant acidity and precise structure—a hallmark year for those who appreciate mineral-driven, focused whites.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Awarded 93 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, this wine opens with expressive aromas of white peach, nectarine, and citrus blossom, complemented by subtle hints of hazelnut and a flinty undertone. The palate is marked by a harmonious interplay of ripe stone fruit, lively acidity, and a gentle creaminess from restrained oak aging, culminating in a lingering, saline-tinged finish. The Twin Valleys Vineyard’s distinctive clay and silt soils contribute notable depth and textural finesse, making this Chardonnay an excellent partner for seafood risotto, roast chicken with lemon and thyme, or a wedge of aged Comté cheese.
Winery Background
Established in 2001 by winemaker Brian Bicknell, Mahi Wines has built a reputation for crafting site-expressive wines that highlight Marlborough’s unique terroirs through minimal intervention. The winery collaborates closely with select vineyards such as Twin Valleys, practicing sustainable viticulture and hand harvesting to ensure optimal fruit quality. Mahi’s approach centers on gentle pressing, wild fermentation, and judicious use of oak, allowing each vineyard’s character to shine through in the finished wine. This dedication to authenticity and elegance has earned Mahi recognition among critics and wine lovers for producing some of the region’s most distinctive and balanced Chardonnays.
