Vintage Character Domaine Élodie Roy Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc 2022 is a bright and expressive Chardonnay from vineyards in the cooler slopes of the Hautes-Côtes, where thin limestone-rich soils and higher altitude lend freshness and tension. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was warm and generous, with well-timed rains that preserved balance, producing whites that combine ripe fruit with lively acidity. This cuvée, drawn from parcels averaging 35 years of age, was pressed partly as whole clusters and partly destemmed, then aged for 10 months in French oak (around 30% new) before a short settling in stainless steel.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing In the glass, it reveals aromas of lemon, pear, and white peach, layered with hints of hazelnut, white pepper, and a touch of mint. The palate is pure and rounded yet taut, with a chalky mineral backbone and a long, savory finish. Its balance of richness and freshness makes it a superb partner for dishes such as seared scallops with beurre blanc or a seafood platter, where its precision and depth can elevate the flavors. Domaine Élodie Roy is one of Burgundy’s rising stars, based in Cheilly-lès-Maranges.
Winery Background After more than a decade working alongside Anne Gros in Vosne-Romanée, Élodie returned in 2018 to take over her family’s 9.7 hectares of vineyards, many with old vines in excellent condition. Her philosophy emphasizes careful vineyard work, low yields, and a thoughtful balance of tradition and modernity. In the cellar, she employs gentle pressing, native yeast fermentations, and élevage that integrates oak without overwhelming the fruit, aiming for wines of clarity, energy, and terroir expression. This artisanal approach has quickly earned her acclaim, with the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc offering a particularly vibrant and approachable expression of Burgundy Chardonnay.
