2015 Domaines Schlumberger Gewurztraminer Alsace Grand Cru Kitterlé comes from one of Alsace’s most dramatic Grand Cru sites, the steep Kitterlé vineyard above Guebwiller. The 2015 vintage is widely regarded as strong in Alsace: a warm, dry growing season produced healthy, concentrated fruit while preserving enough freshness to keep the wine lifted rather than heavy. Kitterlé is distinctive for its precipitous terraced slopes and complex volcanic and sandstone-derived soils, a combination that gives Gewurztraminer both richness and a firm mineral spine.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The nose is expansive and expressive, offering lychee, rose petal, ripe peach, candied citrus and ginger, with hints of honey and smoky stone. On the palate, it is full-bodied and medium-sweet, yet shaped by a clear line of freshness that keeps the texture glossy rather than cloying. Layers of exotic fruit, floral perfume and spice build toward a long, persistent finish with a saline-mineral touch. It pairs beautifully with roast pork with crackling, blue cheese, or duck confit with spiced fruit.
