Vintage Character The 2023 Bourgogne Blanc from Domaine Geantet-Pansiot comes from a Burgundy season of easy flowering, abundant fruit set and repeated summer showers before a sudden heatwave at the end of August. That heat briefly slowed ripening and sharpened the choices around early September picking. For Chardonnay the sequence points to ripe fruit balanced by careful selection and retained freshness, not simply greater weight. As a regional Bourgogne Blanc this wine has its own scale: accessible orchard fruit and a clear acid line rather than the concentration of a grand cru white. The season's generosity makes it open and useful at the table, with a finish that stays bright.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing White peach, crisp apple, lemon and white flowers lead, and the floral note becomes clearer as the wine warms slightly in the glass. The dry palate has a rounded entry, followed by a cleaner, gently mineral impression with fine lees and a hint of oak, and a finish driven by medium-high acidity, at 13% alcohol. Grilled fish, roast chicken or a leek tart let the fruit and freshness work together. Serve cool rather than icy, since too much chill hides the texture that gives white Burgundy its appeal. A broad white-wine glass helps the quieter aromas come out.
Winery Background The Geantet-Pansiot domaine began in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1954, when Edmond Geantet married Bernadette Pansiot and they combined their vines on about three hectares. Their son Vincent joined in 1977 and has led the estate since 1989, and his son Fabien joined in 2006. The domaine has grown to roughly 20 hectares across Gevrey-Chambertin and the Côte de Nuits, with Premiers Crus and Grands Crus alongside some white wines that add range to a largely Pinot Noir portfolio. The family emphasises individual vineyard expression, and this Bourgogne Blanc is an approachable start before the more site-specific bottlings.
