Vintage Character Alain Michelot Bourgogne Blanc 2023 comes from the Bourgogne Blanc regional appellation in Bourgogne. Unsettled spring temperatures delayed budbreak enough to avoid the rare spring frosts. Summer thunderstorms relieved a persistent water deficit, and hot sunshine then concentrated sugar, flavour and colour. Heat above 35°C at the start of harvest led some growers to pick at night or before sunrise. The contrast between timely rain and late heat is central to this vintage's fruit and balance. For Chardonnay, the key is how ripe orchard fruit and texture sit alongside the acidity, and this vintage leaves room for both clarity and enough flesh for the table.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Lemon brings focus to pear and white peach, with a restrained floral note above the orchard fruit. On the palate it is dry and medium-full in body, with medium-high acidity running through the Chardonnay fruit and mineral notes adding a rounder middle. Try it with grilled sea bass, roast chicken and creamy mushroom pasta; the medium-high acidity cuts through richness while the medium-full body holds up to the sauces. Serve at 8–10°C so the lemon and pear stay in focus.
Winery Background Domaine Alain Michelot has been developed by four generations since 1880 and farms about 8 hectares in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Morey-Saint-Denis and Clos de Vougeot. Quality and authenticity are the domaine's stated aims. Élodie Michelot, Alain's daughter, now runs winemaking, and the wines are raised in French oak barrels for roughly 15 to 18 months depending on the cuvée. Here, the Bourgogne Blanc bottling shows that family approach at the regional level.
