Vintage Character The 2023 Marsannay Blanc grew in a Burgundy year of easy flowering, generous fruit set and repeated summer showers before a sharp heatwave at the end of August. That late heat briefly slowed maturation and made early September harvest timing unusually important. Marsannay is the northernmost village appellation of the Côte de Nuits and permits white wine; this bottling is Chardonnay. The season gives a generous orchard-fruit centre, and the interest is how acidity keeps the palate nimble after the hot finish. A white Marsannay sits in a different register from the estate's Pinot Noir reds, though it shares the family's northern Burgundy geography.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The white style evokes citrus, white flowers and stone fruit, with a textured but refreshing dry palate. In 2023 ripe pear and white peach meet lemon zest, fine lees and a light mineral impression, with a hint of hazelnut and honey as it ages. Avoid serving it icy: a little warmth in the glass lets the Chardonnay's fruit and subtle savoury side show, and 13.5% alcohol gives it some body. Grilled sea bass, roast chicken or a mild goat cheese suit its balance of body and acidity. The finish is clean rather than heavy, even though the middle palate reflects the year's ample fruit.
Winery Background The Geantet-Pansiot family story began in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1954, when Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot founded the domaine. Vincent, in charge since 1989, and Fabien later developed holdings across neighbouring Côte de Nuits appellations, including Marsannay. The village produces red, white and rosé wines, and this Blanc shows that the family's range reaches beyond Pinot Noir. The family ploughs its vineyards and avoids herbicides and insecticides. In 2023 the wine shows how a warm final stretch can add breadth to a northern Burgundy white without losing its refreshing role at the table.
