Vintage Character Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault ‘Les Bouchères’ Premier Cru 2012 is a refined and expressive white Burgundy from one of Meursault’s most elegant premier cru vineyards. The 2012 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a challenging growing season, with frost, hail, and poor flowering reducing yields, but a warm, dry late summer produced concentrated, balanced wines of great character.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing In the glass, this Meursault offers aromas of ripe pear, citrus zest, white peach, and toasted hazelnut, layered with subtle floral and mineral notes. The palate is both rich and precise, with a creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity, carrying flavors of orchard fruit, lemon curd, and a touch of spice. The finish is long and mineral‑driven, showcasing the finesse of the Bouchères terroir. Its depth and freshness make it a superb partner for dishes such as lobster thermidor, roasted chicken with morels, or a creamy Comté cheese gratin, where the wine’s balance of richness and tension shines.
Winery Background Domaine des Comtes Lafon, based in Meursault, is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated estates, renowned for producing some of the finest white wines in the Côte de Beaune. The domaine’s roots trace back to the 19th century, when Comte Jules Lafon married Marie Boch in 1894 and expanded the family’s vineyard holdings, including parcels in Meursault and Volnay. Today, under the stewardship of Dominique Lafon and now his daughter Léa and nephew Pierre, the estate farms around 16 hectares, including prestigious premiers crus such as Perrières, Charmes, Genevrières, and Bouchères, as well as a small holding in Montrachet Grand Cru. The domaine was an early adopter of biodynamic viticulture in the 1990s, with a focus on low yields and meticulous vineyard care. In the cellar, whole‑bunch pressing, fermentation in oak barrels, and extended élevage (often 18–22 months) allow each cru to express its unique character. This philosophy of purity, balance, and longevity has made Comtes Lafon a benchmark for white Burgundy, with wines prized by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
