Vintage Character The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Nosroyes' followed Burgundy's frost-damaged spring and a wet summer that repeatedly tested vineyard health. A warm, dry flowering spell offered relief, then a dry north wind and improved September skies helped Chardonnay finish ripening. Les Nosroyes lies at the northern foot of the Puligny slope, immediately below the Premier Cru Les Perrières, on well-drained clay-limestone ground. In the cooler 2021 season that setting keeps the wine's rich middle from losing energy. The named vineyard is village-level, yet its precise location gives more detail than a broad Puligny label.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The domaine links Les Nosroyes with pear, discreet wood, gentle spice and white fruit, ending in a chalky impression, at 13% alcohol. In 2021 lemon and crisp pear lead before the richer texture becomes clear. The wine is both broad and tonic: the palate spreads through the middle, then narrows towards a mineral finish. Roast monkfish, chicken with mushrooms or a mild aged cheese match that combination. Pour cool but not icy, and allow moderate air so the spice and orchard fruit separate. The white-fruit trace after swallowing, followed by chalk, is the most revealing feature.
Winery Background Génot-Boulanger was established in Meursault in 1974 by Charles-Henri and Marie Génot-Boulanger, with younger generations adding distinct Burgundy parcels. Aude and Guillaume Lavollée now continue the estate, whose vineyards have been certified organic since the 2018 vintage. Les Nosroyes comes from a 1.13-hectare Chardonnay site below Les Perrières; the old local name recalls walnut trees once planted there. The fruit is hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented in oak, then rested in barrel and steel. In 2021 the named parcel and the season's cooler line combine in a Puligny whose depth is balanced by a chalky close.
