Pierre Boisson Meursault 'Les Grands Charrons' 2018
Vintage Character
Meursault ‘Les Grands Charrons’ 2018 from Domaine Pierre Boisson is a focused, mineral-driven expression of village-level white Burgundy, crafted entirely from Chardonnay grown in this well-regarded lieu-dit just above the village. The 2018 vintage in the Côte de Beaune was warm and generous, with a predominantly sunny, dry growing season that yielded ripe, concentrated grapes and approachable, fruit-forward wines, while careful growers were still able to retain freshness and definition.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
In the glass this cuvée shows lemon zest, ripe apple and white peach layered with acacia blossom and a delicate touch of fresh hazelnut; on the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with vibrant, medium-high acidity, a creamy leesy core, subtle oak spice, and a long, stony finish where hints of brioche, toasted nuts and wet stone emerge. Its combination of richness and tension makes it a superb match for butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, roast chicken with morel cream, or a simple plate of fresh tagliatelle with wild mushrooms, highlighting both its depth of fruit and its finely etched minerality.
Winery Background
Based in Meursault, Domaine Pierre Boisson is a small, family-run estate that has become quietly renowned among Burgundy enthusiasts for producing precise, terroir-expressive whites from carefully tended vines on classic limestone- and clay-based soils. The domaine is part of the Boisson family constellation, with Bernard Boisson and his children, including Pierre, sharing a similar minimalist philosophy that emphasizes sustainable vineyard work, modest yields and restrained cellar intervention. In the winery, fermentation and élevage take place in oak barrels with a thoughtful but limited use of new oak, followed by patient aging on the lees to build texture without sacrificing clarity. This approach, coupled with attentive farming and a clear focus on site expression, has earned their wines a devoted following for their tension, purity and capacity to reflect the lifted, stony side of Meursault, with ‘Les Grands Charrons’ standing out as one of the village’s most characterful lieux-dits bottlings.
