Vintage Character The 2022 Meursault 'Clos du Cromin' comes from a Burgundy season shaped by heat, but not simply by drought. Later budburst reduced the vines' exposure to April frost; four heatwaves and little rainfall then tested them through the summer. The regional wine board notes that brief rain episodes were valuable and that the finished wines retained fresh fruit despite their concentration. Clos du Cromin's south to southeast-facing position and deep, relatively clay-rich earth offered a different context for this warmth from a thin-soiled hillside. Its deeper soil and exposure make the parcel a distinct expression within the estate's Meursault range. Vinous scored it 89 to 91.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing White peach and vineyard peach are central to the domaine's description of this Meursault; integrated oak frames the orchard-fruit aroma rather than burying it. The 2022 season gives a rounder, broader palate at 12.5% alcohol, with a fresh citrus line and a gently persistent finish providing definition. Lemon, pear and white flowers sit behind the peach, and fine lees add a smooth texture. That smooth texture makes it a natural partner for roast chicken with lemon, butter-poached lobster or a mushroom and leek tart. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees.
Winery Background This parcel mattered to Génot-Boulanger before the domaine had its present range of Meursault wines: Clos du Cromin was long its only holding under that village appellation. Formerly planted to Pinot Noir, it is now Chardonnay on the northern boundary near Volnay. The estate, founded in 1974, has held organic certification since the 2018 vintage and works to keep cellar intervention discreet. Hand harvesting and whole-bunch pressing begin the white-wine process. After settling, fermentation takes place in oak, followed by approximately twelve months in barrel and six months in stainless steel, and the wine is bottled without filtration.
