Ronan by Clinet Blanc 2023
Vintage Character
2023 in Bordeaux began with humid conditions that favoured mildew, which caused significant damage, particularly to Merlot. The harvest brought respite, and the best wines are balanced and bright. In 2023, the Ronan by Clinet Blanc from Château Clinet reflects that season. Ronan by Clinet Blanc is an AOC Bordeaux white made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Grapefruit, lemon, white peach and fresh herbs lead, with a hint of honey. It is dry and medium-bodied, with high acidity. The palate is fresh and rounded, with bright acidity and a clean finish. It is best enjoyed in its youth. Steamed fish, prawns and goat's cheese salads suit it. Serve at about 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, and avoid over-chilling so the aromas can open. Sauvignon Blanc is an aromatic, high-acid grape that keeps its zest in cooler or higher sites. It also suits a glass at the start of a meal, since the acidity wakes up the palate. A white with this profile shows best slightly cool rather than ice-cold, when its texture and mineral detail come through.
Winery Background
Ronan by Clinet is a Bordeaux label from Château Clinet, a leading Pomerol estate that sits at one of the highest points of the plateau. The label is named after Ronan Laborde, the current owner, and a character named Ronan has appeared on the label since 2016. It brings Clinet's know-how to an AOC Bordeaux of spontaneous, generous character made from selected vineyards. The range also includes a rosé alongside the red and the white. The brand's own account describes hillside vineyards near Bordeaux, where vines share the land with fruit trees and livestock. Château Clinet takes its name from a medieval vigneron who worked the terroir, and it has one of the oldest vineyards in Pomerol.
