Vintage Character Baron de Brane Blanc 2022 is the château's Bordeaux AOC dry white. Bordeaux faced spring heat and drought, a brief April frost risk and June hailstorms before welcome rain arrived near the end of August. The season brought an unusually early harvest, small ripe berries and aromatic dry whites that retained acidity. In this Sauvignon Blanc-led blend with Sémillon, ripe citrus and orchard fruit sit alongside a clean line rather than turning broad. The late rain and early harvest make freshness alongside ripe flavour the most interesting feature of the year, and the blend is built to show both.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Lemon zest, grapefruit, pear and a little white blossom lead the nose, with a discreet oak-spice edge. The palate is dry and medium bodied, its ripe fruit supported by fresh acidity and a clean, lightly textured finish. The blend is 82% Sauvignon Blanc and 18% Sémillon, fermented in oak and aged about six months in barrels, with a small portion of new oak. That explains why the wine can have both aromatic lift and a rounded middle. Grilled prawns, lemon roast chicken and soft goat cheese fit its brightness without overwhelming the subtler Sémillon texture.
Winery Background The Lurton family's Château Brane-Cantenac is known for Margaux reds, but Baron de Brane Blanc is made as a Bordeaux white. Sauvignon Blanc defines its aromatics and Sémillon adds breadth. Measured oak adds texture without overwhelming fruit. It is a different wine from Brane-Cantenac Blanc in the family's range, with its own blend and barrel treatment.
