Far Niente Winery 'Estate Bottled' Chardonnay Napa Valley 2024
Vintage Character
Far Niente Estate Bottled Chardonnay 2024 comes from the Napa Valley AVA, a benchmark source for opulent yet polished California Chardonnay. In Napa, the growing season often delivers generous ripeness moderated by cool marine influence from San Pablo Bay, a pattern that typically supports both concentration and freshness in Chardonnay. Far Niente draws heavily from estate vineyards in the cooler southern reaches of the valley, especially Coombsville, where volcanic soils and bay-cooled conditions help preserve acidity and shape the wine’s signature tension beneath its richness.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Expect a layered, expressive nose of Meyer lemon, green apple, toasted pear and white flowers, followed by subtle vanilla, hazelnut and brioche from barrel élevage. The palate is full-bodied and silky, with ripe orchard fruit, citrus curd and a gentle mineral thread carrying through a long, refined finish. Its balance of creaminess and lift makes it especially appealing at the table: try it with lobster risotto, roast chicken with tarragon, or seared scallops with brown butter.
Winery Background
Founded in 1885 in Oakville and revived in 1979 by Gil Nickel, Far Niente has become one of Napa Valley’s reference-point estates for Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery is known for meticulous fruit selection, hand-harvesting, and a house style that favors brightness as much as texture; for Chardonnay, that includes barrel fermentation and sur-lie aging while generally avoiding malolactic fermentation to retain vibrancy. With its historic stone winery, gravity-flow design and deep commitment to consistency, Far Niente stands out for marrying Napa generosity with uncommon precision.
