Vintage Character Domaine Coudray Bizot Echézeaux 'En Orveaux' Grand Cru 2019 reflects a Burgundy season of concentrated ripeness and unexpectedly fine balance. Cool weather in June disrupted flowering before a sunny, warmer-than-average summer brought prolonged drought. A few August showers helped the grapes advance towards ripeness, and harvest conditions delivered healthy fruit with a favourable sugar-acid balance. Picking in the Côte de Nuits began from 10 September. Against that regional background, this Pinot Noir combines generous fruit with refreshing definition, showing why the warm 2019 season need not translate into a heavy or blunt expression of Grand Cru Burgundy.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Red-berry aromas are accompanied by roasted coffee, forest-floor nuances and a little mint. The palate introduces a slightly exotic spiciness around its fruit, with smooth, silky tannins rather than an aggressive grip. A redcurrant-like freshness carries the finish and keeps the richer elements in proportion. Serve it with roast duck, a mushroom and lentil pithivier, or aged Gruyère. These pairings give the wine's savoury details room to develop without overwhelming its berry character. Allowing it to unfold gently in the glass is preferable to serving it too warm.
Winery Background The family behind Coudray-Bizot has held Burgundian vineyard parcels since the early nineteenth century. Jean-Jacques Coudray-Bizot continues a tradition rooted in Beaune and linked to his grandfather, Dr Bizot. The estate is known for holding wines back until it considers them ready for release, rather than rushing each new harvest to market. En Orveaux lies south of Musigny and west of Clos de Vougeot. Natural fermentation, oak-barrel maturation and bottling without filtration are central to the traditional approach, preserving the character of this specific Pinot Noir site.
