Vintage Character Castello Tricerchi Brunello di Montalcino A.D. A.D. 1441 DOCG 2016 is a DOCG Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese from Castello Tricerchi. Montalcino's wet, cool May and June made the early season uneven, while a temperate summer and warm autumn days with cool nights let Sangiovese gain colour and aromatic detail without surrendering acidity. Local producers rated the harvest highly, and the key for this wine is the passage from slow spring growth to orderly late ripening. On Tricerchi's cooler northern slope, that pattern supports a structured Brunello with freshness behind its fruit.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Eucalyptus, red berry and tobacco lead the 2016 nose; red cherry, nutmeg and liquorice follow on the palate. The wine is dry and structured, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and an extended savoury finish. Braised lamb, grilled porcini and aged pecorino can meet its depth. A measured period in the glass brings the spice and fruit together without letting the older bottle warm excessively. Leather and tobacco notes suit bottle development, though how far an individual bottle has evolved depends on storage.
Winery Background 1441 takes its name from the year the castle was completed. It is a hand-selected Sangiovese from Vigna del Castello and Vigna del Velo, followed by long indigenous-yeast fermentation and about three years in large Slavonian oak. The north-facing, limestone-clay and sandy vineyards temper the Tuscan sun. The Squarcia descendants still occupy the historic property, and its cool old cellars provide a traditional setting for slow maturation. It is more selective than the estate's Rosso, with the structure and cellar time expected of a Brunello.
