Vintage Character Castello Tricerchi Iuli'o IGP 2020 is a Toscana IGP Sangiovese from Castello Tricerchi. A dry spring and useful June rain set up Montalcino's 2020 season before July heat. August rain and brief rather than prolonged heatwaves then helped Sangiovese ripen steadily. For Iuli'o, from the castle's Camponovo and Piano plots, this balance gives ripe cherry fruit with enough acidity to stay lively. The fruit was hand picked in early October and kept in steel through maturation. That turns a balanced, warm season into a direct red-fruit wine, without the long-cask, firm-tannin character of the castle's A.D. 1441 Brunello.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Cherry, red plum and a touch of light spice give Iuli'o a direct, fruit-led nose. It is dry, medium bodied and rounded, with fresh Sangiovese acidity and a clean, lingering red-fruit finish. It matures in stainless steel, so the focus stays on fruit rather than vanilla or toast. Salumi, tomato pasta and bean soup all suit its approachable texture; even a simple aperitivo plate works. Moderate chilling helps the wine's brighter side, while a large glass gives its softer middle room to open.
Winery Background Iuli'o is a Toscana IGP wine from Vigna Camponovo and Vigna del Piano, and is not a Brunello blend. The 2020 release is 100% Sangiovese, hand picked, macerated at controlled temperature in steel and matured in stainless-steel vats. That keeps cherry and red-plum fruit in front, without the oak-spice dimension of the castle's longer-aged wines. The castle was completed in 1441 and is now worked by the Squarcia family; its northern Montalcino setting lends a cooler reference point for the grape. Iuli'o shows Sangiovese's direct, accessible side rather than Brunello's extended cask ageing.
