Scarpa Verduno Pelaverga 2022
Vintage Character
"The 2022 Scarpa Verduno Pelaverga from the Piedmontese village of Verduno highlights the rare Pelaverga piccolo grape, celebrated for its distinctive aromatic profile. Benefiting from a warm and balanced growing season, the 2022 vintage produced fruit with notable ripeness and clarity, resulting in a wine that is both vibrant and expressive.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The bouquet unfolds with wild strawberry, white pepper, rose petal, and subtle herbal notes, while the palate offers lively acidity, delicate tannins, and a silky texture. Light-bodied yet persistent, it finishes with a lingering spiciness that underscores the grape’s unique character. This wine pairs elegantly with dishes such as vitello tonnato, mushroom risotto, and Comté cheese, as well as the nuanced flavors of Cantonese roast duck, making it a versatile choice for a range of culinary styles.
Winery Background
Founded in 1854, Scarpa is one of Piedmont’s historic wineries, renowned for its dedication to traditional, terroir-driven winemaking. The estate manages vineyards in Verduno with sustainable practices and a minimal intervention philosophy, allowing each varietal to reflect its origins with purity and finesse. Scarpa’s commitment to authenticity is evident in its careful vineyard management and respect for local heritage, with a particular focus on preserving lesser-known grapes like Pelaverga piccolo. Through its wines, Scarpa showcases the diversity and elegance of Piedmont, offering age-worthy bottlings that honor both tradition and the unique character of the region."
