Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 from Domaine de la Vougeraie is drawn from the historic walled vineyard at the heart of the Côte de Nuits and showcases the purity and depth of biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir on classic mid-slope limestone and clay. The 2019 vintage in Burgundy is widely regarded as excellent, with a warm, relatively dry growing season producing concentrated, ripe fruit balanced by fresh acidity and refined structure.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
In the glass, it opens with black cherry, wild strawberry, red plum, violet and peony, layered with raspberry and subtle fresh herbs, then moves into notes of gentle toast, baking spice, clove, nutmeg and a delicate smokiness. The medium-full palate is precise and focused, with medium-high acidity and finely woven yet firm tannins that frame the fruit, leading to a long finish of forest floor, truffle, leather, dried rose petal, sous-bois, cedar, tobacco and a hint of dried mushroom. This limited-production cuvée, with a distinctly classic and structured Clos de Vougeot profile, pairs beautifully with roast rack of lamb, duck breast with cherries, mushroom risotto or aged Comté.

Farmed organically and biodynamically, the domaine emphasizes low yields, careful handwork in the vines and gentle extraction in the cellar to let each climat speak clearly. The winemaking team, long associated with a precise, minimalist approach, favors whole-cluster use when it suits the fruit and a judicious, unobtrusive oak regime to preserve the aromatic purity and texture of Pinot Noir.
