Vintage Character Musigny Grand Cru 2019 from Domaine de la Vougeraie is a rare, biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most legendary grands crus, drawn from the tiny Grand Champ sector of this hallowed slope. The 2019 vintage in the Côte de Nuits is widely regarded as outstanding, thanks to a generally warm, dry growing season that delivered intensely ripe yet finely balanced fruit, combining concentration with vibrant freshness.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing From an exceptionally small production – reported at only a few hundred bottles – this wine offers soaring aromatics of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry intertwined with violets, rose petals and subtle forest berries, layered over fine-grained oak spice, clove, sandalwood and a touch of cocoa. On the palate it is silken yet powerful, medium-full in body with high, crystalline acidity and refined, chalky tannins, unfolding notes of sous-bois, truffle, dried leaves and a hint of leather that promise further complexity with age; the finish is long, precise and deeply perfumed. This is a contemplative grand cru suited to refined dishes such as roast pigeon, veal tenderloin with morel jus or truffle risotto, and it is superb with aged Comté or other firm, nutty alpine cheeses.
Winery Background Domaine de la Vougeraie was created by the Boisset family in 1999 to bring together their finest Burgundian holdings under a single, terroir-focused estate, named after the Vouge River and the historic Clos de Vougeot that anchors the family’s presence in the Côte de Nuits. Farmed according to rigorous organic and biodynamic principles, the domaine emphasizes low yields, meticulous vineyard work and minimal intervention in the cellar to let each cru speak clearly of its origin. Longtime winemaker Pierre Vincent played a key role in shaping the house style of precision and finesse, using gentle extractions and judicious whole-cluster fermentation where appropriate, followed by élevage tailored to each parcel rather than a one-size-fits-all recipe. The understated, traditional label mirrors the philosophy: elegance, purity and respect for the land take center stage, especially in a jewel-like, micro-production grand cru such as this Musigny.
