Brovia Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' DOCG 2020
Vintage Character
The 2020 vintage in Barolo was characterized by a balanced growing season, with moderate temperatures and well-timed rainfall contributing to optimal ripeness and freshness in the Nebbiolo grapes.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Awarded an impressive 95 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Brovia Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2020 exemplifies the finesse and structure of this renowned cru in Castiglione Falletto, where calcareous clay soils lend depth and elegance to the wine. The bouquet is alluring, with notes of rose petals, wild red berries, and subtle orange peel, evolving into savory hints of tar and licorice. On the palate, the wine is refined and layered, featuring taut tannins that frame flavors of cherry, dried herbs, and a delicate mineral undertone, all culminating in a persistent, resonant finish. This Barolo is ideally paired with classic Western dishes such as braised veal shank (osso buco), wild mushroom risotto, or aged Parmigiano Reggiano, which complement its complexity and depth.
Winery Background
Brovia, founded in 1863, is a distinguished family-owned estate in the heart of Barolo, celebrated for its dedication to traditional winemaking and meticulous vineyard management. The Brovia family has long practiced organic farming and low-intervention cellar techniques, focusing on single-vineyard bottlings that highlight the distinct personalities of each cru. Their philosophy is rooted in transparent expression of terroir, allowing the unique characteristics of sites like Rocche di Castiglione to shine through in every bottle. With a reputation for producing wines of purity, structure, and authenticity, Brovia continues to honor the region’s heritage while embracing thoughtful innovation in both the vineyard and the cellar.
