Vintage Character Domaine Jean Grivot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 is a refined, terroir-driven red Burgundy from the historic walled vineyard of Clos de Vougeot, showcasing the depth and elegance of Pinot Noir from this prestigious Grand Cru site. The 2017 vintage in Burgundy is generally regarded as a very good year, marked by a relatively warm, mostly dry growing season and healthy yields that produced wines with ripe, pure fruit, supple tannins and vibrant freshness, offering attractive value (性價比) for such a revered appellation.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and violet mingle with subtle red plum, delicate cranberry and a fine halo of oak spice, clove, cinnamon, cocoa and dried rose. On the palate it is medium-full bodied with medium-high acidity and finely structured, medium-high tannins, delivering layers of dark red fruit, a touch of forest herb and a savoury sous-bois note, before gliding into a long, complex finish of earth, truffle, leather, dried leaves and a faint gamey nuance. This is a sophisticated partner for roast lamb with herbs, duck breast with cherry sauce, mushroom risotto, or aged Comté.
Winery Background Domaine Jean Grivot, based in Vosne-Romanée, is a long-established family estate with roots dating back to the late 19th century and is widely respected for its holdings in some of Burgundy’s finest crus, including an important parcel in Clos de Vougeot. Now in the hands of the family’s fifth generation, with Etienne Grivot and his daughter Mathilde deeply involved, the domaine has been carefully modernized, combining traditional Burgundy sensibilities with contemporary precision. Vineyard work focuses on low yields, meticulous canopy management and sustainable, increasingly organic-leaning practices to ensure healthy, concentrated fruit that faithfully reflects each site. In the cellar, the team champions careful sorting, destemming and gentle extraction, followed by élevage in French oak with a judicious proportion of new barrels, aiming to refine tannins, preserve purity and allow each terroir to speak clearly without heaviness or excessive oak influence, an approach that has cemented Jean Grivot’s reputation as one of the benchmark producers of the Côte de Nuits.
