Vintage Character Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges “Aux Lavières” 2019 is a finely etched Pinot Noir from a stony lieu-dit on the northern side of the appellation, where well-drained, limestone-rich soils help shape an elegant, mineral-driven expression of Nuits. The 2019 vintage in Burgundy is widely regarded as excellent, thanks to a hot, dry summer that produced concentrated, ripe fruit yet, in the best cellars, preserved freshness and precision.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and cranberry mingle with violet, subtle redcurrant and a hint of pomegranate, framed by delicate oak spice, clove, cinnamon and light toast. On the palate it is medium-bodied with medium-high acidity and finely woven, medium tannins, showing a graceful texture, crushed-stone minerality, and savory nuances of fresh mushroom and herbs, leading into a long finish with whispers of forest floor and dried rose petal as it evolves in bottle. It is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roast duck breast, herb-crusted lamb, or wild mushroom risotto; a gently aged Comté also makes a superb match.
Winery Background Domaine Jean Grivot is a benchmark family estate based in Vosne-Romanée, with roots in Burgundy viticulture dating back to the early 19th century and a long-standing reputation for precise, terroir-focused wines. Now run by the latest Grivot generation, the domaine farms its Côte de Nuits holdings organically, emphasizing low yields, meticulous sorting and a sensitive, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar. Winemaker Etienne Grivot helped modernize the estate with a focus on purity of fruit, fine-grained tannins and judicious use of new oak, aiming to let each climat speak clearly rather than impose a heavy stylistic signature. The classic cream-and-crest label underscores this philosophy: understated, traditional and centered on the village and vineyard name, reinforcing that the true star here is the origin in the heart of the Côte de Nuits.
