Thierry Pillot Volnay “Les Santenots” Premier Cru 2019 is a finely etched expression of Pinot Noir from one of Volnay’s most characterful premier cru terroirs, where well-drained clay-limestone soils help to shape both perfume and supple structure. The 2019 vintage in the Côte de Beaune is widely regarded as excellent, marked by a warm, mostly dry growing season that produced ripe, concentrated fruit, yet with enough cool nights and careful picking to retain fresh acidity and refined tannins.

In the glass, this wine offers lifted aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, violet and rose petal, with nuances of red currant and cranberry. The palate is medium-bodied and precise, with medium-high acidity and polished, medium tannins framing pure red fruit, subtle spice, light toast, clove, vanilla bean and a hint of cocoa, leading to a long, graceful finish with emerging notes of earth, forest floor, dried leaves and sous-bois. Elegant yet expressive, it is a superb partner for dishes such as roast duck with cherries, herb-crusted lamb, mushroom risotto or a simple roast chicken with thyme.
