Arnaud Baillot Volnay 2022
Vintage Character
Arnaud Baillot Volnay 2022 is a Village wine from the Volnay appellation. Later budbreak helped protect vines from April frost. Four summer heatwaves and a general lack of rain then tested water reserves, although timely small showers helped the crop. Despite the heat, the regional report finds fresh fruit and vigour alongside concentration. The vintage offers ripeness without surrendering its sense of lift. For Pinot Noir from Volnay, the season puts acidity and tannin texture in dialogue with red-fruit ripeness. In the Volnay appellation bottling, expect supple fruit and easy movement. The central vintage question is how small summer showers moderated the effect of four heatwaves.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
A touch of earth and discreet spice checks the red cherry, raspberry and violet aromas. On the palate it is dry and medium in body, with fine, medium tannin and medium-high acidity giving the Volnay fruit a fresh frame. The finish is clean and moderately long, with forest floor and dried flowers adding depth as the wine ages. Try it with veal with a light jus and roast root vegetables, or glazed duck with mild spices; the fine tannin and medium-high acidity suit these dishes without overpowering them.
Winery Background
Arnaud Baillot works with his wife Laure from Beaune, selecting small parcels across village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru appellations. He favours restrained new oak and an approach that lets the place stay legible in the finished wine. In the estate's Burgundy range, this is the Volnay appellation bottling. Pinot Noir and the Volnay name set the wine's frame, and the 2022 season shapes its balance.
