Vintage Character Volnay Premier Cru 2023, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Les Frémiets is a Pinot Noir from one of the appellation’s most structured and mineral sites, on the Pommard border. The 2023 Burgundy growing season delivered healthy fruit and balanced ripeness, making it a strong vintage in the Côte de Beaune with both charm and definition. Les Frémiets is known for producing a firmer, more tensile expression of Volnay than many more perfumed central sites, typically drawing energy from limestone-rich soils and its exposed position at the southern edge of the commune.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The wine shows classic Pinot Noir purity with aromas of red cherry, wild raspberry, rose petal and violet, backed by subtle spice and a stony lift. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely detailed, combining juicy red berries with savory undertones, silky but present tannins, and fresh acidity that keeps the finish long, precise and saline-tinged. It pairs beautifully with roast duck, herb-crusted pork loin, or mushroom risotto.
Winery Background Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is one of Volnay’s reference-point estates, celebrated for its long family history and for helping establish estate bottling in Burgundy under Marquis Sem d'Angerville in the early 20th century. Today Guillaume d'Angerville continues that exacting tradition with biodynamic farming, meticulous hand-harvesting and a restrained cellar philosophy designed to let each climat speak clearly. Thoughtful extraction and élevage in French oak, used with discretion rather than excess, preserve the domaine’s hallmark of finesse, transparency and site expression.
