Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 'Les Caillerets' Premier Cru 2022
Vintage Character
The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a warm, dry growing season, producing wines with ripe fruit, vibrant acidity, and refined tannins.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 'Les Caillerets' Premier Cru 2022 exemplifies the elegance and aromatic purity of Volnay, with Wine Advocate awarding it an impressive 92–94 points for its precision and depth. Sourced from the renowned 'Les Caillerets' Premier Cru vineyard, this Pinot Noir showcases the influence of gravelly, limestone-rich soils, offering a bouquet of wild raspberry, black cherry, rose petal, and subtle crushed rock. The palate is silky and layered, revealing notes of red currant, pomegranate, and delicate spice, all framed by a mineral backbone and a long, graceful finish. Ideal food pairings include roasted duck breast, herb-crusted lamb, or classic French Comté cheese, each complementing the wine’s complexity and supple texture.
Winery Background
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is recognized as one of Volnay’s most esteemed producers, with a heritage dating back to the early 19th century. The estate is celebrated for its pioneering approach to estate bottling and its leadership in organic viticulture, cultivating Premier Cru parcels with a deep respect for the land. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, both in the vineyard and the cellar, allowing the unique character of each site—particularly the gravelly, limestone-rich 'Les Caillerets'—to be fully expressed. This commitment to authenticity and quality has firmly established Marquis d'Angerville among the elite producers of Burgundy.
