Vintage Character Arnaud Baillot Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru 2020 is a Grand Cru wine from the Romanee Saint Vivant appellation. A warm, dry summer accelerated fruit development and made 2020 one of Bourgogne's notably early harvests. The fruit nevertheless retained acidity, with the regional body describing expressive, structured reds rather than heat alone. The tension in this bottle is between early ripeness and the freshness needed to carry the fruit. For Pinot Noir from Romanee Saint Vivant, the season puts acidity and tannin texture in dialogue with red-fruit ripeness. In the Romanée-Saint-Vivant grand cru, expect greater depth and a firmer frame. The unusually early ripening makes retained acidity central to the wine's 2020 balance.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Violet lifts the cherry-and-raspberry core, with a quiet earthy note behind the fruit. On the palate it is dry and medium in body, with fine, medium tannin and medium-high acidity giving the Romanee Saint Vivant fruit a fresh frame. The finish is long and layered, with forest floor and dried flowers adding depth as the wine ages. Try it with seared tuna and mushroom risotto, or glazed duck with mild spices; the fine tannin and medium-high acidity suit these dishes without overpowering them.
Winery Background Arnaud Baillot works with his wife Laure from Beaune, selecting small parcels across village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru appellations. He favours restrained new oak and an approach that lets the place stay legible in the finished wine. In the estate's Burgundy range, this is the Romanée-Saint-Vivant grand cru. Pinot Noir and the Romanee Saint Vivant name set the wine's frame, and the 2020 season shapes its balance.
