Vintage Character The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by severe spring frosts and a mild summer, resulting in reduced yields but wines of classical freshness, purity, and aromatic finesse. From the limestone‑rich climat of Les Pluchots in Volnay, Pierrick Bouley crafts a Pinot Noir of refinement and expressive character.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Awarded 90–92 points by Neal Martin (Vinous), this cuvée opens with a pure bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberry, and rose petals. On the palate, it shows supple fruit with fine tannins, a touch of succulence on entry, and greater density than Bouley’s straight Volnay village wine, finishing with a stony, mineral edge. Its balance and texture make it an excellent partner for roast duck breast with cherry glaze, mushroom risotto, or aged Comté cheese, where the wine’s freshness and structure enhance both savory and delicate flavors.
Winery Background Domaine Pierrick Bouley, based in Volnay, represents the sixth generation of a family deeply rooted in the Côte de Beaune. Pierrick assumed responsibility for the estate in 2014 and officially renamed it from Domaine Pascal Bouley to Domaine Pierrick Bouley in 2020, signaling a new chapter while honoring family tradition. Vineyard work is carried out with organic principles, including careful canopy management and low yields to ensure concentration, while the Les Pluchots site, with soils reminiscent of Clos des Chênes, is farmed with particular attention to preserving its natural character. In the cellar, fermentations are conducted with indigenous yeasts, followed by élevage in oak barrels with around 30% new wood, a restrained approach that allows purity and terroir expression to shine. The 2021 Les Pluchots embodies Bouley’s philosophy, offering a wine that is approachable in youth yet structured enough to evolve gracefully over time.
