Vintage Character The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin developed in a Burgundy season of summer heat and drought, interrupted by rain that helped the vines recover before a healthy September harvest. April frost had posed a threat, but later budburst limited some losses. The regional picture is of generous, balanced Pinot Noir despite the climatic extremes. At village level, Gevrey-Chambertin already brings more body and structure than many neighbouring reds, so 2022 gives a broad, ripe centre while freshness defines the finish. This wine is the family's direct expression of the appellation, without a separate named climat.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Mulberry, strawberry, violet and rose belong to Gevrey's aromatic register, and 2022 deepens the fruit towards dark cherry and plum, with a hint of licorice or earth for contrast. The dry palate is generous, its tannins velvety rather than coarse, with a clean aftertaste that keeps the ripeness in proportion, at 13% alcohol. Serve it with roast lamb, steak or a mushroom-rich dish, since substantial food suits the village's firm build. A young bottle opens with modest air, and a temperature just below a warm room keeps the fruit distinct.
Winery Background Geantet-Pansiot was established in Gevrey-Chambertin by Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot in 1954. Vincent, in charge since 1989, and Fabien expanded the family holdings, but Gevrey remains its original point of reference. The domaine makes village wines as well as site-specific Premier Cru and Grand Cru bottlings, and this cuvée shows the broader appellation character before those narrower parcels. The village's limestone and clay-limestone slopes give varied expressions within a shared identity. In 2022 family continuity and ripe fruit meet in a wine built for the table and for further bottle age.
