Vintage Character The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru developed under a warm, dry Burgundy summer, with timely rain easing drought stress before a healthy September harvest. Frost risk in April was real, although later budburst limited some damage. Regional accounts describe generous yields and balanced reds despite the summer heat. For Charmes-Chambertin these conditions make Pinot Noir fruit broad and accessible, while the Grand Cru's distinction still lies in length and structure. Compared with the more cautious, cooler 2021, this year's colour and fruit arrive sooner in the glass.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Dark cherry, red plum and raspberry form a generous opening, with violet, clove and light spice adding lift as the wine breathes. A rounded middle palate is held by ripe, fine tannins rather than hard edges, at 13.5% alcohol. An earthy note joins the finish and brings definition to the fruit. The wine should not be judged by its first burst of aroma alone, because the longer aftertaste shows why the vineyard carries Grand Cru rank. Pair it with roast duck, lamb or a mushroom-rich dish, and serve a little below room temperature. If opened young, give it measured air and follow the change from fruit towards savoury depth.
Winery Background Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot established Geantet-Pansiot in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1954. Vincent, in charge since 1989, and Fabien grew the family's holdings across Côte de Nuits sites, with Charmes-Chambertin at the top of its red-wine range. The Grand Cru name denotes a specific protected origin, not a general label for any powerful Pinot Noir. The estate's mix of regional, village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines lets each bottle be understood in context. In 2022 the ripe fruit stays anchored by the defined site and a finish that can develop with time.
