Vintage Character The 2023 Stefano Occhetti Roero “Sanche” is a red wine made from Nebbiolo in Piedmont’s Roero DOCG. The vintage shows a bright, approachable expression of the variety, combining fresh red fruit, floral lift and lively acidity with the fine tannic structure typical of Nebbiolo grown on Roero’s sandy soils.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Fragrant aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry are joined by notes of rose petals, dried herbs and subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a savoury, elegant finish. It pairs well with tajarin pasta, mushroom risotto, roast duck, veal and other roasted or braised meats.
Winery Background Stefano Occhetti founded his family winery in 2019 after leaving a career in engineering and returning to his native Monteu Roero. Working alongside Giulia since 2022, he farms five hectares of steep vineyards rooted in Roero’s ancient marine sandy soils. “Sanche” comes from a single vineyard of the same name, where Nebbiolo vines more than 75 years old grow on a dramatic 43-degree slope. Fermented in oak with natural yeasts and matured for 16 months in oak after malolactic fermentation, the wine reflects the estate’s focus on small-batch production and the distinctive depth, structure and elegance of Roero Nebbiolo.
