Vintage Character Castello Tricerchi Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2019 is a Rosso di Montalcino DOC Sangiovese from Castello Tricerchi. Montalcino entered 2019 after an unusually cool May that slowed vine development, then saw a dry but not excessively hot summer. Late-August rain and a cool, breezy September favoured a measured final ripening of Sangiovese. For this Rosso, that sequence gives a fresh red-fruit centre with enough mature tannin for food. Tricerchi's northern-facing vineyards already have a cooler setting, and a slower seasonal rhythm helps preserve their aromatic line. The September finish gave this Rosso a poised seasonal frame.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Strawberry, sour cherry, violet and a little dried herb make a lifted nose. The dry Rosso is medium bodied, with lively acidity, present but approachable tannin and a savoury, mineral-edged finish. White meats, mushroom pasta and semi-aged pecorino answer the estate's own food direction. Its shorter oak maturation leaves the fruit more immediate than A.D. 1441 Brunello, while Montalcino's Sangiovese structure keeps it from being merely light. Serving it slightly below warm room temperature sharpens its cherry detail and lets the 2019 seasonal freshness register clearly.
Winery Background Castello Tricerchi's Rosso di Montalcino is Sangiovese from Vigna del Piano and Vigna dei Cipressi. The family hand-picks and ferments in steel, then ages the wine in larger Slavonian oak vessels, a shorter route to release than its A.D. 1441 Brunello. The old castle, completed in 1441, remains with Squarcia descendants; the vineyards lie on Montalcino's cooler northern side. Rosso is more than declassified Brunello: its selected plots and shorter maturation aim for immediate red-fruit energy while keeping the region's firm acidity and savoury finish. The same family philosophy is expressed at a different pace.
