Josef Köhr Riesling Brut Nature Winzersekt b.A. 2022 combines a ripe Pfalz growing season with an uncompromisingly dry sparkling style. Across the region, sustained summer heat advanced grape development, while September rainfall changed the conditions facing Riesling growers. Maintaining freshness alongside ripeness was therefore central to the season's balance. The finished Sekt gives that contrast a clear expression: recognisable fruit, lively acidity and no softening impression of dosage sweetness. Its patient bottle maturation provides texture, allowing the fruit of a warm year to sit within a brisk, finely sparkling profile.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Apple, apricot and citrus define the aromatic core, with pear and a light vanilla nuance adding detail. Fine bubbles carry the fruit across the palate, and the dry finish keeps the wine precise and refreshing. There is a gentle textural counterpoint to the acidity, so the experience is more complete than a simple rush of sharpness. Enjoy it with smoked trout, a plate of vegetable tapas, or lightly battered prawns. Josef took responsibility for the business in 1975, and the next generation continued the tradition from 2019. This Riesling Sekt is made by the traditional method, with its second fermentation taking place in bottle. A twenty-four-month maturation before disgorgement develops the fine mousse and brings the elements together. The combination of a single aromatic grape variety, bottle fermentation and a Brut Nature finish gives it a distinct place within the estate's range.
