Champagne Louis Roederer 'Cristal' Brut (Gift Box) 2014
Vintage Character
The 2014 Cristal Brut from Louis Roederer is a radiant example of Champagne’s most celebrated prestige cuvée, crafted in a year that balanced generosity with precision. The growing season began with a mild spring and a warm, sunny summer, followed by a September that delivered ideal ripening conditions. From the estate’s 45 historic vineyard plots, only 39 were chosen for the final blend, underscoring the meticulous selection that defines Cristal.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
In the glass, it shows a pale golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles and a bouquet of citrus zest, white peach, pear, and apricot, layered with hazelnut, brioche, and chalky minerality. The palate is both powerful and refined, with a silky texture, bright acidity, and layers of orchard fruit, citrus, and subtle spice, finishing long, saline, and elegant. It pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster in beurre blanc, turbot with truffle, or aged cheeses like Comté, offering both immediate pleasure and decades of cellaring potential.
Winery Background
Louis Roederer, founded in 1776, has long been one of Champagne’s most prestigious houses, with Cristal created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia.
Today, the cuvée is sourced exclusively from the estate’s biodynamically farmed grand cru vineyards, where chalk soils impart purity and finesse. The 2014 vintage reflects the house’s philosophy of precision and patience, with fermentation partly in oak and extended aging on the lees to build complexity. Critics have hailed it as “a kaleidoscope of flavors and textures,” with scores up to 98 points from leading publications, placing it among the finest Champagnes of the decade. With its luminous balance of richness and crystalline purity, Cristal 2014 stands as both a benchmark for the house style and a wine destined to evolve gracefully for decades.
