Vintage Character Boschendal Estate Appellation Series Elgin Chardonnay 2022 is a white from Elgin, South Africa, made from Chardonnay. The 2022 South African harvest came after cool conditions that delayed ripening by roughly ten to fourteen days in many regions. The smaller crop allowed careful selection, and a measured pace helped preserve freshness.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Lemon curd, white peach and blossom sit over a restrained vanilla note. This is a dry, medium-full Chardonnay with a firm acidic line, a rounded middle and a mineral finish. Oak adds breadth without masking the Elgin fruit. Roast chicken, grilled shellfish and buttered fish all match its texture; serve cool, not icy, to show the quiet floral detail. With bottle age, hazelnut notes may start to appear.
Winery Background Boschendal dates to 1685, between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Its Appellation Series is site led: Elgin gives a cooler setting for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while Stellenbosch gives Cabernet a different ripening context. The estate has dedicated red and white winemakers and says oak should add intrigue without overpowering fruit. Appellation is the name of Boschendal's range rather than a formal quality rank.
