Domaine Serene 'Monogram' Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Oregon 2012
Vintage Character
Domaine Serene Monogram Pinot Noir 2012 is an icon-level Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Oregon, produced only in standout years from the estate’s top barrel selections. The 2012 growing season in the Willamette Valley was widely regarded as excellent, with a warm, dry summer and benign harvest conditions yielding fruit of generous ripeness, concentration, and impressive balance. Drawn from Domaine Serene’s estate vineyards in the Dundee Hills, the Eola-Amity Hills and the Yamhill-Carlton area, the wine reflects a mosaic of volcanic and sedimentary soils that helps explain its combination of dark-fruited depth, lifted perfume, and structural finesse.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Wine Advocate awarded the 2012 Monogram Pinot Noir 94 points, underscoring its stature among Oregon’s elite Pinots. The bouquet is layered and expressive, offering black cherry, marionberry and dark plum alongside violet, rose petal, sweet spice, forest floor and a touch of truffle. On the palate it is concentrated yet polished, with supple tannins, vivid acidity and a satin-like texture carrying the fruit through a long, savory finish marked by oak spice and earthy nuance. It pairs beautifully with duck breast, roast quail with wild mushrooms, or cedar-planked salmon.
Winery Background
Founded in 1989 by Ken and Grace Evenstad, Domaine Serene helped define the luxury tier of Oregon wine through an unwavering focus on estate fruit and meticulous cellar work. The Monogram bottling serves as the house’s pinnacle Pinot Noir, assembled only from the most compelling barrels of the vintage rather than made every year. Fruit is hand-harvested, sorted with rigor, and vinified with a terroir-first mindset; the estate is known for gravity-flow handling and élevage in French oak to build texture and longevity without losing site expression. That blend of ambition, precision, and world-class consistency is what makes Domaine Serene a benchmark name in American Pinot Noir.
