2022 Colgin IX Estate is an iconic Napa Valley red from Pritchard Hill, drawn from one of the region’s most coveted hillside sites. The 2022 growing season in Napa was warm and dry, a pattern that favored small berries, deep concentration and firm structure, making this a powerful mountain-fruit vintage with serious cellar potential. Pritchard Hill’s rocky volcanic soils, steep slopes and elevated exposures are central to the wine’s identity, giving the Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot its signature intensity, mineral tension and sculpted tannins.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
On the nose, expect blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry and plum layered with violet, graphite, cocoa, espresso and cedar. The palate is full-bodied and densely packed yet remarkably controlled, with polished tannins, medium-high acidity and a long, resonant finish marked by crushed rock, dark chocolate and subtle oak spice. This is a commanding but refined red that pairs beautifully with dry-aged ribeye, herb-crusted lamb saddle or roast duck with cherry sauce.

Winery Background
Founded in 1992 by Ann Colgin, Colgin Cellars helped define the modern Napa cult-wine landscape, and IX Estate remains one of its benchmark bottlings. The estate on Pritchard Hill is farmed with meticulous attention to low yields and precise fruit selection, and harvesting is done by hand to protect berry quality. In the cellar, the philosophy centers on expressing site through careful lot selection, fermentation tailored to each parcel and élevage in French oak, resulting in a wine that combines Napa grandeur with remarkable precision and age-worthy poise.
