Vosne-Romanée 2014 from Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a village-level Pinot Noir drawn from some of the estate’s Vosne parcels, and it captures the appellation’s hallmark perfume, finesse and understated power. The 2014 vintage in Burgundy is generally regarded as a classic, cooler year, with a challenging summer followed by a fine, sunny September that brought healthy, ripe fruit and produced balanced, vibrant wines with fresh acidity and moderate alcohol. On the nose this wine opens with red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and a touch of cranberry, layered with violets, rose petals and delicate oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and finely etched, with medium-high acidity and polished, medium tannins giving a graceful, flowing texture; notes of forest floor, subtle cocoa and savory herbs add complexity before a long, lifted, mineral-tinged finish.
