Vintage Character The 2017 Oremus Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos from the historic Tokaj region represents the summit of Hungarian dessert wine craftsmanship. Warm summer conditions followed by a perfectly timed, humid autumn encouraged widespread Botrytis cinerea, allowing grapes to develop extraordinary sweetness while maintaining electric natural acidity. Born from steep volcanic clay and soft tufa soils overlooking the Bodrog and Tisza rivers, the estate’s microclimate fosters ideal conditions for noble rot, imbuing the fruit with remarkable mineral complexity and depth.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Layered aromas of dried apricot, candied orange peel, honeyed jasmine, and ginger blossom open on the nose. The rich palate balances plush sweetness with razor-sharp acidity, revealing flavors of quince paste, marmalade, and toasted almond across a velvety, lingering finish. Excellent food pairings include pan-seared foie gras with fig chutney, Roquefort cheese, or glazed Peking duck.
Winery Background Founded upon legendary vineyards dating back to 1630, Oremus has been stewarded by Spain’s renowned TEMPOS Vega Sicilia since 1993. Winemaker András Bacsó preserves ancient traditions through painstaking hand-harvesting, selecting shriveled Aszú berries one by one in the vineyard. The botrytized fruit ferments and matures in traditional 136-liter Hungarian Gönc oak barrels in deep underground cellars, creating an iconic, benchmark dessert wine celebrated worldwide for its elegance and cellar longevity.
