Planeta Didacus Chardonnay 2022 is an icon-level white from the Menfi area of southwestern Sicily, crafted from Chardonnay grown in the historic Ulmo estate. The 2022 vintage was shaped by a warm, dry growing season, which reduced yields and concentrated the fruit, while coastal influence and day-night temperature shifts helped preserve lift and definition. That balance is central to Menfi’s appeal: abundant Mediterranean sun, ventilated hillside vineyards, and calcareous clay-rich soils give this wine both generous ripeness and a salty, mineral edge.

A Wine Advocate 94-point performer, Didacus opens with ripe lemon, yellow peach, apricot and Mediterranean herbs, layered with vanilla, toasted almond and a light brioche note from oak. The palate is full-bodied and polished, with creamy texture, bright acidity and a persistent finish that carries citrus oil, spice and a subtle smoky minerality. It has the depth for lobster with beurre blanc, roast chicken with morels, or seared scallops; for an Asian option, it also works beautifully with crab fried rice.

This cuvée comes from the family’s oldest Chardonnay plantings at Ulmo, with careful selection, hand-harvesting, and an oak-led élevage designed to marry Mediterranean richness with precision, making it one of the benchmark Chardonnays of southern Italy.
